Rose City Rose Cuts
Jewelry Designers in Portland on the Rose Cut Train
Portland, Oregon, USA is known as the Rose City. Like the use of rosecut diamonds in jewelry, Portland is considered a progressive city and is often viewed through a confused veil by those who don’t understand what it's all about. The city has deep roots in nurturing counterculture, perfect for misfits like us to set up our new US office! We've been enjoying connecting with our now-local regulars as well as meeting new Portland jewelers since establishing the office across the border. We’ve put together a selection of jewelers we love from our Rose City along with pieces they have designed showcasing what we are known for representing most: rosecut diamonds. These designers are as diverse in their personalities as they are in their work. We’ve included private designers with discreet studios, brick and mortar stores with large showrooms, and everything in between to encompass a taste of the diversity Portland has to offer amongst its small yet vibrant jewelry community. Stop and smell the rosecuts below!
Hutcherson Goldsmithing
Dustin and Caroline Hutcherson are highschool sweethearts who work together in their small private jewelry shop, creating custom fine jewelry on Portland’s downtown jewelry block. They have a cozy showroom for one-on-one design consultations, and work closely with their clients to build pieces around each style and story. Caroline designs with the clients, listening to their stories and working out the details. Dustin then creates each piece, one at a time, from start to finish. They offer complete in-house services including serious CAD skills, exceptional stone setting, and a keen eye for detailed perfection. They are very discerning in the way they select and curate stones! Well worth a visit to their intimate showroom if you are ever in Portland!
What We Love: The collaboration is wonderfully apparent between Caroline and Dustin’s designs, and their craftsmanship in every piece they make is seriously top notch.

Chinchar/Maloney Fine Jewelry
Chinchar/Maloney Fine Jewelry was founded by designers Colin Chinchar and Marian Maloney. They set their own standard in heirloom quality, handcrafted fine jewelry – living by customer satisfaction and standing by their work. They currently work out of a quiet studio in town where they have built an exceptional team of creatives that mirror the uniqueness and strength of their product. Chinchar/Maloney has carved out a large national fanbase and share openly their enthusiasm for working with rustic diamonds. They believe that salt and pepper diamonds are underrated in their beauty, appeal, and timelessness. The flaws within each salt and pepper diamond represent Chinchar/Maloney’s appreciation for the imperfect, as well as their deviation from contrasting societal standards.
What We Love: How Chinchar/Maloney embraces every imperfection, and unique shape of the alternative diamonds they select! Their jewelry is a great rumination of what Portland is all about!

Lady Faye Jewelry
Katie Mills of Lady Faye Jewelry is a Portland jeweler who loves the personal process of custom design and truly slays it with creating one-of-a-kind special occasion rings. She collaborates with her clients by listening to their stories and priorities while guiding them through the design process in a stress-free and fun way. She has the warmest and most intuitive demeanor. Katie encourages jewelry design that fits her client’s lifestyle, design aesthetic, and budget. Often the design inspiration starts with a stone; she always jumps at the opportunity to source a unique rosecut diamond. Finding the perfect stone that speaks to her clients, seeing a custom design come to fruition, and of course ring delivery day are her favorite exciting moments of her process that she looks forward to with each new design opportunity.
What We Love: The reflection of Katie’s perceptive design, kind energy, and honest connection she harbours with people can be seen so clearly in her work!

Amanda Linn Jewelry
Portland jeweler Amanda Linn focuses on meticulously hand-fabricated jewelry featuring ethically-sourced rosecut diamonds and Australian opals. Her metal of choice--22 karat gold--is alloyed in-studio from recycled metals (and absolutely to die for!). She seeks to honor the connection to each other, our world, and the mystery of our source. Her jewelry acts as wearable symbols of these beautiful aspects of our humanity. “For me, making jewelry is about listening--to the wearer, first and foremost, and also to the materials.” She seeks stones that exude life-force: a play of light and dark, inner fire, and character. To balance this, her metalsmithing is generally restrained: quiet, hand-fabricated, and forged settings carefully honed to provide tactile sensuality when worn. Her work can be seen at one of Portland’s best small jewelry stores, Alchemy Jeweler.
What We Love: The platinum and buttery 22k gold she is known to work in and her interest in her jewelry as an expression of the wearer’s heart and soul.
